At first, I thought that it would be easy to finish in two hours. We had to ideate, materialize, design, and deliver in just 2 hours. Time management was the most challenging part of this event. What was the most challenging aspect of the Jam? I was thrilled and thankful for our team members’ dedication to the project. When our team name was announced, I could hardly believe my ears. It was totally unexpected! We worked very hard and the other groups had done a great job too. How do you feel about winning the Judges' Award? Jihye Woo, one of the winners of the Judges’ Award Students walked away with lots of experience, exposure and new networks after a fun-filled productive day. Overall, it was an exciting day for the students in learning to use a new tool, working in teams to brainstorm ideas and engaging in producing original apps. This app was created to help users relieve their stress and anxiety by encouraging them to engage in indoor/outdoor activities. The “Detox” app by Team 4 was then chosen for the Audience Award by online voting. The app involved the use of inventive dares in a fun way to make people stay away from their phones. Professors Tina Korani, John Delacruz, Yoon Chung Han and Mel Day from San Jose State University along with an associate from Adobe elected Team 6 app “Challenge Accepted” for the Judges’ Choice Award. The teams then presented the audience with their version of a mobile application. Naturally, her topic of discussion was Digital Detox. Her speech was followed by that of Sariah Sizemore from Ritual Work.

She spoke on “Run and Operate Kubernetes: Software is eating the World”. Later on, the participating students and audience were addressed by Keynote speaker Susan Wu from VMWare. Another 28 students were able to have their portfolios reviewed by local professionals and faculty members of San Jose State University. Working in teams of four, students had just two hours to think and execute their ideas. After the tutorial, students were asked to create a prototype for a mobile game application using Adobe XD characterized by the theme “Digital Detox”. Donna Caldwell, Senior Solutions Consultant, led 35 students through the Adobe XD Bootcamp tutorial for the first 45 minutes. Students were introduced to Adobe XD, a vector-based application used to create designs and prototypes for UX mobile and web apps. The event took place on April 18 at the Adobe Headquarters in San Jose. The audience were bestowed with the opportunity to select a team that was worthy of the Audience Award. Based on their performance, a panel of judges chose a winner of the Judges’ Award. Students from different majors - graphic design, mass communication, software engineering - worked in teams to concoct innovative designs and concepts. This year’s competition theme was “Digital Detox” and creating an app to motivate users to cut down on screen time.
